Rare c1840s English Ironstone Large Serving Platter w Grasshopper Design

  

Presented is a great quality antique English ironstone china serving platter, dating to around the 1840s, likely by Mason's. The platter is made in a classical octagonal form and features very colorful decoration.

The decoration depicts a variety of beautiful flowers depicted in the Chinese style, with vibrant green foliage and red fruits and an interesting grasshopper or similar insect nearby. This platter is quite a large and impressive size, guaranteed to make an impression however it is used or displayed. This piece is in great overall condition. Some minor loss to the painted decoration, but nothing severe. There is a flake to the glaze on the underside of the rim, visible in the seventh photo at about the 2 o'clock position, which is not visible from the top side.

There are no other chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. This piece is signed'Patent Ironstone China' on the side of the foot, though the first couple of letters of'patent' are partially worn.
